Today the class was challenged with building a cantilever. A cantilever is a long projecting beam or girder fixed at only one end. They are often used in bridge construction. To win the challenge, the groups needed to build a cantilever that would support the weight of an apple the furthest distance from the edge of the table. The winning group went through some trial and error, but eventually decided to use a suspension bridge type design.
