This week the class finished their paper slide videos. The purpose of these videos is to let the students share their understanding of different topics that we have discussed so far this year. This was their first attempt at this type of learning assessment. My hope is to use these videos again later in the school year.
Today in class we modeled impact craters on the moon. The students dropped a variety of objects onto the surface of the moon (pan full of corn starch), and then measured the size of the crater that was created. Through experimentation they needed to determine what impacts the size of the crater. They tested different volumes, mass, and velocity. This lab activity was a part of our current unit on space that we are studying in class. Please enjoy the video that Gavin created. It is a slow motion video of a meteorite hitting the moon. |
